

A distinction is made here between the central nervous system and the peripheral nervous system. The central nervous system (CNS) includes the brain and the spinal cord, while the peripheral nervous system encompasses the entire nervous system outside the CNS and innervates the musculature, the skin, the blood vessels and the internal organs.
