Follow-Up Therapy

According to the definition of the social security insurance authority, the patient should be capable, without the help of others, of washing, dressing, eating and moving around within the ward. The ability to work should be greatly enhanced or restored by the measures applied.

Patients from other clinics who have already completed the advanced rehabilitation phase or who, following a less serious illness, can again cope with day-to-day matters fairly independently, are also admitted. From a diagnostic standpoint, the condition of the patients is usually such as can be expected following a cerebral infarct, a cerebral haemorrhage, a subarachnoid haemorrhage, operation of space occupying masses (tumours) in the area of the CNS and the peripheral nerves, craniocerebral trauma, inflammatory illness, etc.

Instances of paralyses and sensitivity disorders are normally minor cases, although due to difficulties associated with reintegration in working life they nevertheless require intensive physiotherapeutic and ergotherapeutic support. Neuropsychological treatment is central to the therapy plan when reintegration in the working world is intended. This relates not only to mental capability, but also to attitudes towards illness, understanding health problems and social integration.
