The wards for the seriously ill care for those patients who have just come through an acute period of treatment. The special monitoring facilities and care required in such cases are provided in our clinic. For patients who are critically ill or for those experiencing breathing difficulties, our clinic's own intensive care unit provides more than 10 respiratory units.
Diagnosis plays a major role in early rehabilitation in the field of neurology, with serious craniocerebral injuries, circulatory disturbances of the brain or hypoxia-related brain damage following resuscitation, cases of inflammatory illness of the brain, the spinal cord or the peripheral nervous system, post-operative conditions after brain tumour surgery, etc. being the order of the day.
The objectives of early rehabilitation are initially often the further stabilization of the patients, who are often in a critical condition. Intensive nursing care can help to avoid secondary injuries (decubital ulcers, juxta-articular calcification, pneumonia due to swallowing disorders, infections of the urinary tract, thrombosis as a result of paralysis and lack of exercise). Other objectives are the gradual mobilization of the patient aimed at use of a wheel-chair, establishing basic communication and encouraging cooperation to manage simple daily routines, such eating and bodily hygiene. The more the mobility and endurance of the patient increases, the sooner he or she can actively participate in the therapy measures.
